That's the heart of what we do at Eka. Our teachers, whom the children call "Aunty," don't stand at the front of a room — they sit beside each child, gently connecting them to the activity that's right for them, right now. We call our classroom the "Environment," because that's exactly what it is: a space built for movement, focus, and quiet order, where everything has its place.
Small hands reach for materials on open shelves, one at a time, one skill at a time. It looks like play. To your child, it is play. But it's also their very first work — the beginning of a lifelong love of learning.

Fridays are different at Eka. We call it our "No Material" day — a day when the entire community sets aside the usual materials and dives into a single topic, following wherever the children's curiosity leads. There's no clock ticking, no fixed lesson plan. One Friday might mean threadwork and art; another, a hands-on science discovery. It's a day built entirely around wonder — and it's one of the things that makes Eka, Eka.
It's often hard to spot the adult in a Montessori environment — you'll find her sitting on the floor or at a table, quietly observing her students at work.
She thoughtfully prepares the environment with materials matched to each child's interests, academic level, and developmental needs — introducing them one at a time, and laying the foundation for independent learning.
Beyond academics, she helps each child turn their attention outward — fostering community, collaboration, and respect for others. Her quiet orchestration leads to magical moments, as young children exclaim:
"I learned it myself!"
A Montessori environment brings together children across a three-year age span, creating a naturally mixed-age community. Ideally, children stay with the same class and teacher for the full cycle, forming a stable community and meaningful bonds. Older students mentor the younger ones; younger students look up to their "friends" getting an early glimpse of the work to come.
